I had some fatigue in the middle parts simply because of how long the plot goes on. It's my third-favourite in the series now, with DQ8 and DQ3 tied for first, but I'd say that objectively this is the best one and the one I would recommend to newcomers. In a lot of ways it feels like they were aiming to make the ultimate Dragon Quest game and they may well have succeeded. ![]() I would play it for 5 to 6 hours a day, every day. It basically consumed my life for the last 2 weeks. However, I personally can't help comparing it to Dragon Quest VIII, and that's a hard act to follow.ĥ5h 43m ProgressThis is a very dangerous game, lemme tell ya. It easily held my attention for over 100 hours, and I think it would be a good entry point to the series. Overall, Dragon Quest XI was a very good RPG. At least it was easy to pick up where I left off, but this could easily have been avoided by just putting the credits at the end of the story. I missed 30-40 hours of the story, and I was in the middle of another game when I found out. When the credits roll on a game, I think it's pretty reasonable to believe the story is done and everything left is just fluff, but in this case that is 100% wrong. Now, my complaint: in Dragon Quest XI, after you beat the boss and see the credits, the story is not over. All this is to say: it's just not for me. ![]() Even in Dragon Quest VIII, when I really wanted to spend more time in the world, I lost interest after getting to the post-game town. Talking to NPCs and fighting random monsters just isn't that fun by itself, and I have better things to do. When I beat the final boss and see the credits, I feel like the story is over. I have to complain about the "post-game". Really, it just made me want to play Dragon Quest VIII again. It's too mellow, especially when riding a horse. I turned it on for a few minutes, and boy did it feel good to hear that music again, but it just didn't fit in this game. About 80% of the way through, I learned that the free DLC lets you switch to the overworld theme from Dragon Quest VIII. Several of the tracks have stuck with me, and I can still recall them instantly, several months later. It would have been even better if you could imbue it with elemental effects/resistance. Being able to rework your existing equipment was a nice feature. There was almost never a reason to buy any equipment, since you could usually make something better with the Fun-Size Forge for a fraction of the price. The money in the game was basically superfluous. It took too long to skip through it, though, which made the casino shenanigans take longer than necessary. One nice touch was that when you load a save file, it gives you a quick summary of what just happened in the story. The game did have some good quality of life improvements over the older games, but it's all pretty standard stuff that you would find in any other RPG from the last five or ten years. Everything was polished and well done, but I didn't really love the characters, and I can't say that there was anything truly memorable or that it gave me joy. 107h 6m PlayedDragon Quest XI was a solid entry in the series, but for me it lacked that "special something" compared to my favorite RPGs (Dragon Quest VIII, Final Fantasy VI and IX, Chrono Trigger).
